Searching for Swedish records - page 90 - Census records

Once you find the page shown below, you will notice something different from the same page in the Swedish Birth records.

This volume that we were looking for the census, includes other documents.

The first listed - Husforhorslangd - are the parish census records. These records started out as a compilation of the catechisms. Priests would go on rounds in the parish, year after year, usually the following the same route. 

If you find your ancestor in the census in a particular place on a particular page, the odds are that the following volume will have them listed on a page that is close in numbering as the first volume.

The second record set - Inflyttningslangd - is a record by year of everyone who came into the parish. In this case the year spread is from 1831 through 1835.

The third record set - Utflyttningslangd - is a record by year of everyone who left the parish.

The year spread is - again - 1831 - 1835.

Scroll down the page until you get to the correct year that you are looking for. For this search I am looking for a record book of deaths which includes 1861 - 1865.

After moving forward from 1831 - 1836, I found the following:

Carl’s father had died on 11 November 1864.

Since we have found a death date for Carl's father Jonas, we will go back to the index and look through the death records.

Lena M. Johansdotter - his mother

Sara Peterdotter - his sister. She is listed twice because she moved out and then moved back home, and then moved out again.

I went back and looked at page 200 for Jonas Peterson Plato:

He is living with a group of men, and is not going by the name Plato.

Look to the right of his name. It says that he came from page 48.

There is no index for the towns in this film in the front of the volume. Work your way back, page by page, to the back of the volume.

I found Carl Peter and his parents on page 302. It states where they were living, each person's birth date and place, and where they are listed in the census book prior to this entry.

For this search, I ended up on page 176.

This record is telling me the following:

He was the 53rd child born in the parish of Dädesjö for the year of 1835.

His full given name was Carl Peter Jonasson. His last name states that his father's name was Jonas.

He was born on the farm/or area of Norratorp (northern farm) "under" Dadesjo.

His father's full name was Jonas Peterson Plato. Plato was a soldier name acquired by Jonas Peterson at the time of his enlistment. He either was assigned the name or took the name as his own choice.

His mother was Katarina Carlsdotter. She was 30 years of age when he was born. You can surmise that Katerina's birth year was 1804 - 1806.

Following the listing of the parent's names are the witnesses to the baptism/christening. they included:

Farmer (torp) Nils Svenson from Norratorp

The unmarried working man  (Drangen) Hakan Mansson in Dadesjo.

The unmarried working woman (pigan) Stina Samuelsdotter.

Now that you have found the place that the infant was born and his/her parent's, search for the family in the census.

In this case, I had to go page 171 to find where the birth records for 1835 started in this parish.

To find Carl Peter Jonasson's birth record I moved forward 5 more pages.

This is Bild/picture 176 for the year 1835.
It states that the 53rd infant born in that parish was Carl Peter Jonasson to Jonas Peterson Plato and his wife Katarina Carlsdotter.
